Starting on Sunday, May 21, I am going to pick up the current participants at the Sky Harbor Airport and travel to Kayenta AZ for 5 days of shooting in Navajo country. The trip will start within the confines of the Monument Valley Navajo Park and end in Page AZ. Within the park, we will use native guides and our schedule will include the following shooting; May 22) sunrise shooting followed by shooting a Navajo sheep drive by a local weaver in full Navajo Dress. The "sheep driver" model is also a rug weaver and after the drive we will visit her weaving hogan to view her techniques and more shooting. May 23) We will spend a complete day in the park with local guides shooting different areas depending on the light. One of my favorite guides calls himself the indigenous light chaser and he's very good at it and knows the park like the back of his hand. May 24 and 25) The next day will be an overnight trip to the top of Hunt's Mesa which will provide all shooters a unsurpassed view of the whole valley. We will camp under the stars (tents and camping gear provided), cook steaks, tell stories (aka lies), and I've timed the trip so that we camp on the night of a new moon. That will allow all who want an ample chance to shoot the milk way and we will do some "light painting" to enhance some local rock formations and vegetation. In the morning you will wake to a wonderful sunrise overlooking the whole of monument valley.
After the trip we will return dusty and tired, and I'll take care of the driving to Page AZ. That afternoon we can shoot the sunset at the Horseshoe just outside of town. Of course no photography trip to Navajo Country is complete without visiting the slot canyons. So on May 26, we will visit a minimum of 2, with the primary emphasis on upper Antelope Canyon during mid day for the best light.
The next day we will return to Phoenix where I can either drop you at your motel or Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix.
The cost of this trip is completely dependent on the number of people and I will take up to 10. The minimum number is 4.
Costs include all of your guiding (including tips), the rental vehicle, and my instructional help while shooting and all lodging (double occupancy). The lodging we will be staying at include The View in Monument Valley Navajo Park and the Holiday Inn express in Page, AZ. It does not include food. Please contact me if you are interested in how to book a single supplement but it adds quite a bit.
For 4 people the trip is $3365,
For 6 people the trip is $2538
For 8 people the trip is $2249
I currently have 4 openings for the trip.
